Hello fellas. I have a problem at home with my hot water. It is very noticeable when the bath/shower is running hot water that there is an unpleasant odour resembling 'cat pee'. The hot water doesn't appear discoloured, but the smell from the hot water is enough to put you off having a bath/shower. The hotwater tank is in the loft. Don't know if the smell is coming from the water tank or the hot water cylinder. Read somewhere that the smell may come from the anode rod in the hot water cylinder and that replacing the magnesium anode rod with an aluminum rod could solve the problem. Sounds like it may be easier to replace the whole hot water cylinder, I don't know.
Can any of you fellas relate to this problem and point me in the right direction to remedy the smell. The 'cat pee' smell coming from the hot water makes the whole bathroom stink and you can smell the odour in other parts of the house.
I don't own any cats!! :) Would appreciate any help and possibly avoid extortionate plumbers fees.
Thanks.
Alex.
