I have started stripping a 1930s door (incorporating the horrors of lead paint). After a bit of work, I got to this stage and now am looking at this wood and can't work out what it is. The darker bits appear to be much harder than the white part. Does anyone have any ideas what it is? I've been trawling wood grain image sites and can't find something that matches.
Bad news as well was that the door appears to be hollow (it weights 17kg which seems a bit light), although the woodwork at the top and bottom is flawless - I can't see any obvious joins.
