Someone mentioned in passing using jet swets to block off the water in a pipe for soldering, changing valves etc

Seemed like a handy tool, I've had a look and they seem quite expensive, just wondering if any has experience of them and has an opinion either way?

Never used one, tbh it's going to have limited applications. First you need enough straight pipe so the thing goes in far enough to prevent heat damage to the seal. Then you can't fit any elbows or bends or any tube length more than the length of the tool.
Finally you have to have enough room to pull the thing out when you've finished- cue more water flying out of your pipe end.
Maybe worth it in a massive apartment block with no or failed iso valves on a building-wide heating or dhw system, no point at all in most UK houses

Only seen them sort of things used is by the likes of Transco gas when they are changing a house's main incoming gas isolator valve...without having to cut if off in the street/outside.

Not a bad idea when you have pipes that won't stop dribbling.

Sadly for them most guys will either press a fitting on or use compression which limits its appeal

Would be worth considering if it was cheaper though

Waste of money, bit of bread trick is far cheaper
