Any reason why I have suspended timber floors throughout, except for kitchen which is concrete?

Just wondering about the above question. A friend across the road has the same situation and reckoned it was something to do with lead pipes.

Or is it just because they felt like doing it that way when they built it? 1940s build.

I'd imagine they're less likely to catch fire.
Cooler in summer, too.
The larder would need a hard floor to keep it cool and deter mice from nibbling their way in.

Ours was built in the 1930s and we still have the original quarry tiles down: nice n' cool in summer. (y)

Does not rot if wet

Can be swabbed down

Undamaged by spilled gravy or fat
