Hi, I am new on the site, and would very much appreciate some help. I live in a 1960's detached house, which has joists in the roofspace which are seven inches deep, and one inch wide. From what I can gather, seven inches is deep enough for the joists to be strong enough to support a floor (I am thinking of converting the attic into a room to use as an office), but I am not sure if one inch wide would be sufficient, or would the whole thing need strengthening before flooring it?
Thanks for your help.
