I harbour the suspicion that Asda's Deli counter curries and Chinese food "meal deals" are really the nasty full-of-muck microwave meals presented better.

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

I think you are quite possibly right, however they do come in massive catering sized packs - I know because I have seen them filling up the pots!

No, but if I had to put money on it I would say that you are right. Can you ask them for the list of ingredients and then compare the two?

Personally, (although I'm no gourmet), I think Asda's branded microwave meals are quite good in terms of quality compared to some of the other rubbish you can buy. I rarely have time to cook properly for myself so a lot of my meals are either processed frozen foods that I can take out of the freezer and oven-cook in less than half an hour, or microwave ready meals.

When I lived in Grantham, my nearest supermarket was Morrisons - their microwave ready meals were tolerable, but I'd prefer getting a chinese takeaway or KFC etc. Now I live 10 minutes walk from Asda in Brighton, I find they have a good range, and I enjoy the food. Tonight, in fact, I had chicken & veg in a large yorkshire pudding, which was part of their "6 frozen meals for £4" offer. Nothing wrong with that, and tell me where else you can get a decent sized plate of food for 66p!!!

I had the chicken tikka for 2 Indian meal on Saturday night and thought exactly the same thing. It came complete with "2 Large Onion Bargies" which were actually the size of two small squashed plums. Didn't know exactly what I was getting until I got home. The Nan bread wasn't too bad though

Try the Mumtaz brand, slightly more expensive but tastes a lot better.
Or better still get a take-out from a well known Indian... I don't think the Deli curries come close to the real stuff.....

Maybe it's because I am getting that tiny bit older (grand old age of 30) but I have found that it is important to make time (i.e. maybe cut something else out) to eat properly.

omg I have tried KFC twice and just cannot bear it, so disgusting.

I'll admit microwave meals do have their place, I ate a lot of them when I didn't have a kitchen due to building work, but now I cannot bear them, and would rather have nothing.

Crafty - I can see someone's been cramping your style - why else would you feel cooped up?

Completely agree with this. There is a lot of salt and sugar and god knows what else in these meals, how can they use decent ingredients at these prices? I would rather cook a quick omelette or something if I am pushed for time, and even if you make a salad or a jacket spud to go with it I bet it would be cheap as any of these ready meals.

If you can't knock something decent up in the kitchen in half an hour then may I recommend the following books -

Real Fast Food
The 30 Minute Cook

Both written by Nigel Slater, and both excellent, even though he is a pretentious prat with an over zealous love of the saxophone, an instrument I personally detest.

And as for KFC, don't even go there.
