Audio trouble(?)!

Any music I play or anything I listen to on-line seems to play at a slower rate at times and also with skips/misses (like the comedian who used to pretend he had a faulty mic a fair few years ago!)
Also while music is playing my screen freezes and I'm unable to go to next page etc.
Any ideas besides 'get a new pc' would be greatly received!

Can you provide some details of your setup, including the type and speed of your internet connection, operating system and details of any anti-virus/spyware packages.

I have no idea about anything!!!
Its very 'homemade'...its probably very slow on a normal day but with speakers it's even slower!
I was given a pc in October 2004,it blew up a year later (sparks did fly!)!
My bro then put all the workable bits in an old one of his!
Worked a treat!
Till recently that is!
I even threw some old speakers away at christmas cos I thought that was the problem,then last week I bought some new speakers and got the same problem!
Gutted!

I will find out all I can!
