yes and yes, release system pressure and screw in a new one with a bit of lsx on the threads.

this will cause the pressure to drop, but how much of a drop are you talking about ?

Is it just a little drop or are you comming in in the moring and finding the pressure at 0

If its just dropping a bit then yes you can replace the auto airvent (a corgi regesterd person can i mean)

full drop....its not the actual screwing in cap...its actually the body of the vent...at the top that seems to be weeping....its not actually my boiler but my aunts...but the pressure drop occurs when the boiler is off...so cant be more than over 8hrs....

can i remove the whole body..the boiler is at least 12 yrs old...will i need to drain down the whole system

or blow off with the PRV?

Thanks guys

You can take it out through the prv, but then you will almost certainly need to replace that aswell.

you might think its old ,but it,s a very good boiler look after it and your aunt will be very happy.p.s. find someone you trust to look after boiler

Fair do's.... its definatley weeping at the top of the auto air vent.....so is it a case of draining down and then unscrewing the vent with a pair of grips?....oh yeah i've used the prv in the past to reduce the pressure as her son filled it up to 3bar (dont ask me)..but have i gone and knackered the prv?....im new the whole gas world (finished college 9 months ag0) but any help would be appreciated

don't use the boiler flow/return valves just drain off prv and change auto air vent if prv continues to leak change it both parts less then £25. Gavin

nice one....i couldnt find the gc number...reckon i can still get the parts just with the make and model?....the prv is fine, has not been leaking...i take it if i keep using it its liable to get damaged and start passing? so when i drain with prv do i shut both the flow and return or can i leave them open?...

ta

you only need to drain the pressure off from a drain point, most of the water will stay in the system as you are only opening one joint on it. Just make sure you shut the drain first.

nice one...i'll sort that 2mo...is HRP (parts center) the best place to get it from
