It allows you to plug a 12V lamp directly into a 240V supply.

20X it's rated voltage. The lamp will explode the moment you power it up.

Do video the explosion in slo-mo for us and post it here!

Maybe you're all overlooking the ultra-minaturised 230V to 12V converter inside it - perhaps the reason why it costs as much as £2.99 :)

Seriously, though, if you haven't already, I guess that someone ought to have a word in the ear of the seller?

Kind Regards, John

Actually, this converter may not be as daft as we think .... doesnt an ENH projector lamp (120V 250W) have an MR-16 base? Not sure whether there are any 230V lamps with this base though......

Have to take my hat off to you Rob, you really have a knack of finding this stuff. How did you happen upon it?

Who hasn't done their market research?
Any tw@ who buys it?

It resolves to this - we, as a society can continue to believe in the fiction that we can continue the light-touch, under-funded, under-penalised regime which is supposed to ensure product safety but which manifestly does not, or we can recognise that we basically have 2 stark choices to make between

a) Regarding the damage to the ill-informed caused by unsafe products as a welcome dose of chlorine in the gene pool.

and

b) Telling Amazon and eBay et al that we cannot afford to change our light-touch, under-funded, under-penalised regime so it is down to them to do it, and if they screw up we will shut them down.

Simples.

No doubt unwelcome to many, and no doubt to be derided by people who think that our light-touch, under-funded, under-penalised regime can be gently tweaked to deliver the goods, when the reality is:

IT

SIMPLY

CANNOT.

So we have to decide - do we want that Costco-sized bottle of bleach, or do we want, by dint of some on-the-surface eye wateringly swingeing penalties to say to eBay and Amzon et al "IF you want to do business then YOU must police what you sell or allow to be sold via your facilities"?

All that will happen is that ebay and amazon marketplace will be replaced by sites based outside the country where they can thumb their noses at our laws.
