Hi all,

Thinking about erecting a 24ftx9.5ft pre-fab shed in the garden.

What sort of base would I need and how deep would it have to be? Would a 6" slab, laid directly onto soil be ok with steel mesh?

A 100mm slab with say a thickened 150mm edge toe will probably be ok on decent prep.

The problem with all these set-ups is if you build the foundation slab bigger than the garage footprint then water will inevitably gather on the protruding bit and find its way inside, no matter how good the mortar fillet around the bottom.

Don't you already have a huge shed in your garden already?

Cheers

I do indeed have a large shed (which needs some urgent attention to the roof)

. My brother-in-law wants to put a workshop up on some extra land in his garden, so thought I'd post for him.

Is it best to ensure slab is same size as building? Would any reinforcement be required in the slab, or just lay concrete straight onto soil?

Thanks

I have several sheds  The biggest is 20' x 10'. I scraped the ground flat, put down concrete blocks, put scaffold boards down across the width of the shed at 2' centres, then screwed scaffold boards to these so they are along the length of the shed. None of this waste of materials and difficulty of relocating by pouring slabs. It's only a shed you're putting up.
