Hi,

We have an extractor fitted in our bathroom (which has no window) ceiling. We were suspicious it wasn't quite right and when removed found that it doesn't actually extract anywhere other than into the roofspace between us and our upstairs neighbour (we are first floor).

Obviously this is not right and needs to be corrected. The problem is that our kitchen is between the bathroom and the outside wall making installing ducting difficult. The property is a 1900's tenement block.

If anyone could provide any help or suggestions it would be appreciated.

Thanks

if u cant get into the roof space above due to person aboves flooring their isnt much u can do... install ducting in your kitchen and box it in :( doesnt look amazing but not sure of any other way

really u need someone to come and have a look at it, local builder or someone ... they can actually see what options u have

if you are very lucky the joists will run towards an external wall and you can poke some ducting along there. You will have to make a hole or two in the ceiling, certainly at the wall end and when you hit strutting. A Core Drill that you can hire makes a nice neat round hole for the vent to go through.

If your neighbour agrees to let you take up some floorboards it might be less disruptive than breaking into the ceiling.

If not, rectangular plastic ducting can be run at the junction of ceiling and wall. It can be concealed above kitchen cabinets easily enough and it can be painted to blend in.
