Bathroom shelf/cistern cover

Evening...
Ive built and tiled a nice surround over my inbuilt cistern and now need something to sit on the top.

I have gloss white vanity unit and would like the same finish. I can buy matching worktop but its not deep enough by 2cm! so im looking for some other ideas. It needs to be finished on 2 of the 4 sides.

Tried looking for shelf units in BnQ etc but can't find a good quality 'melamine' type bit of wood about 80cm long by 23cm deep.

Any suggestions welcome.

cheers

If I'm reading it right, can you not use tiles with bullnose edge tiles on front?

When I was adding a small dummy panel to the end of a run of bathroom units I used a piece of MDF, with several coats of primer, rubbed down well between each, finishing with 400 wet or dry, and then a couple of coats of white aerosol appliance enamel. This gave a good match to the gloss white units.

Personally I'd avoid chipboard or ply for this, as there's no problems with filling the 'end grain' with MDF.

For the same job I needed about 800mm X 330mm of worktop. I was lucky enough to pick up a 1.2M 'offcut' of kitchen worktop from the timber cutting section at B&Q for a couple of quid.
