I have a flat that I am planning on renting and been told that I have to change my bathroom lock to a thumbturn / release for safety reasons - fine. The door simply has a bathroom mortice lock (like http://www.wickes.co.uk/invt/159308) with door knob on either side so doesn't actually lock. It had a small separate bolt/latch which I've now removed. However, I bought a thumbturn/lease from Wickes ( http://www.wickes.co.uk/invt/163963) however, this simply means it turns from inside the bathroom not out and hence (i) it doesn't lock and (ii) you would be unable to get in from outside if the door was fully closed - not good!
I'm very confused as the agent is saying all you need is a thumbturn release but the door needs to lock - can't see how it will do both....
Excuse the ignorance here but surely I have to change the lock mechanism to include a chubb type deadbolt correct? Or do you get a "magic" thumbturn release with handles on both sides but only locks from inside.
Do I need this? http://www.wickes.co.uk/invt/521030
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
