We get banging and rattling noises from our central heating system. The noises seem to come from a radiator that is on the back of the wall where the boiler is fitted. I assume this radiator would be either the first or last in the system. The noises last for up to about 45 seconds max. The radiators were all bled a couple of weeks ago. The noises are not every day but this evening they have happened about 3 times. We checked the water guage on the boiler and is was showing as 1.0. We topped it up to 1.5 a couple of hours ago and it is now at 1.3. There are no visible leaks on the boiler or rads.
Is there any easy way of locating leaks other than looking for wet areas?
Would this be the cause of the banging and rattling noises or could there be 2 problems going on?
I understand from the previous owner the boiler is about 4 yrs old but not really sure.

Your expansion vessel may need re-charging and the expanded water has no where to go, so it goes out of the PRV valve inside the boiler.

Thanks for help. Will get this checked out.
