Hi
Advice please

I need to get the front of my house re rendered inc the bay between the lounge and bedroom windows.

The wall section is a timber frame with plasterboard on inside.

I intend to remove outside render to expose frame. Replace any timber or treat as necessary.

My neighbour had a similar issue so when his was open I noted that frame was covered with a felt of some description
Then expanded mesh
Finally rendered.

someone suggested boxing the the bay with 18mm exterior ply then felting etc.

is this an acceptable way of doing the repair? Is it better?

thanks for reading

cheers

Can't comment on the render, but it's a good chance to stick some insulation in whilst you have the chance

ply , felt and cladding surely.
Felt finish sounds a bit rough.

or cement board (frost proof) rendered.

Hi thanks for replying
The (roofing) felt is not the finish
Expanded mesh is attached over the felt and then rendered ( rough cast)
I did think of upvc cladding or vertical tiling but I’m not sure if it would look ok.
Cheers

For me a thin coat modern system is more feasible for the application but way more complex and involved , primers-adhesives , and expensive.

ply and mesh is way outdated since modern cement boards like aquapanel ,marmox or siniat etc.
another option would be ply ewi and silicone render with appropriate mesh.
