Best type of wood to use as a mortar board

Hi all
What would be the best type of wood to use as a mortar board when plastering .

you want a plasters hawk

well on 2nd thoughts you could put the mortar board on your head and put plaster on that, keeps both hands free

But you better get the mix right, or you'll be picking dried in plaster out of your beard for DAYS!

:LOL: VERY GOOD
What i mean is not the plasters hawk, but the board that goes on the mortar stand after u have mixed the plaster in a bucket.
 
A brickie I know always uses an offcut of worktop about 30 inch square because the laminated surface is as smooth as anything but marine ply is also a good choice. If you use anything else give it a good coat of PVA to seal it first and it won't draw the water out of your mix as much.
