As you can see nearly every brick has blown across the rear of the house to about 3ft up,
It was covered up by old by render but we have damp coming through, pointing is soft and bricks are soaked.

Whats the best thing to do ?

Next thing to do is.............nothing.

You've stripped off the rendering -that's a start. If the bricks are soaking, it's likely that the house has no (or ineffective) dpc, and the rendering has been trapping water in.

The wall needs to dry off before you decide what to do next, and this will take some time, possibly into the spring if the damp is so bad.

Then you can decide if you need a new dpc, and possibly to re-render, but taking care not to bridge any dpc. The lower bricks at ground level may need replacing in sections if they are badly blown.

Very attractive. Wouldn't normally suggest it but this looks like a candidate for re-rendering to me. With some proper detailing of course. Check the dpc is working. Fix a small lead flashing over the top of the render and a bellcast at the bottom. The area below the bell cast can be rendered with a thin layer of render painted black. Then render with a breathable silicate based render.

I would agree with tony though - let it dry out and stabilise first over the spring.

Ok thanks for the replies

Was wondering if the dpc is damaged would it be better to replace all the bricks (asphetical) and put a new dpc in at the same time ?
