Biasi Boiler high Pressure Reading

I have a Biasa 28 boiler and its been brill, the pressure gauge has dropped now and then due to the odd leak but no real problems to date! Or should I say untill now, turn the boiler on and it works fine, before the boiler is turned on the pressure reads 1 bar and normally rises slightly when in use, recently it starts off at the normal 1 bar but quickly goes up to the 4 bar mark and beyond. Any ideas to what would cause this, is it safe to use or will the extra pressure pop the pipes.
