Hi, my house has mostly all black coloured cables with BICC written on them and some numbers .003 and .0045 and they go into metal sheaths I think they are called. Can anyone tell me what type of wiring this is and how old it is likely to be?

Can you post a photo of it and what colour is the insulation on the conductors

Does it look similar to this?

Could it be octoflex or similar pre-fabricated wiring system?

Spark123, yes it does look a lot like that with both of the wires being one solid single core and both have black plastic (or pvc?) over them, then they pass into the metal sheath

That is commonly known as "pyro" it can have various colour pvc sheathing, black, orange and white are quite common
Bicc and pyrotenax were the main people who manufactured it
The numbers may be imperial sizes and the glands may look slightly different to the ones in the picture depending how old it is.
