hi,

I'm just in the process of pricing up for block work for blocking up a door way at the back of the house.

The house is brick 1930's the block work will eventually be rendered on the inside the outside block work will have to carry the weight of our boiler which is being moved we are extending out the back (creating a utility room) and opening out the kitchen.

Is block work suitable for the job and will this be sufficient to take the weight of the boiler when it is reinstalled on the back wall, should I be taking any further precautions with it.

Thanks

Block-work will be fine. Make sure you mechanically tie the abutments. If cavity wall, use cavity ties across the leaves (and if it it 9" also) and don't forget inso'.
