I have 4 chandeliers in my lounge, each has 3 x 40W candle bulbs. If I switch them all on at the same time, that's physically turn the switches to on at the same instant, there's a more than even chance that one (or more) of the bulbs will blow. If I switch on one at a time, there's absolutely no problem. Is this indicative of a fault somewhere?

If it definitely happens every time the only thing I can think of is that one of the switch contacts is drawing an arc as you flick them on all together. probably no fault but why not just switch them on one at a time

Simple answer: Dont turn them all on at the same time = result
