Hi

I have a Baxi WM 60/3 RS boiler, approx 18 years old. Even though we have the hot water & centreal heating on a timer (which has recently been changed), the boiler fires up every so often, at night even when the timer is off. It usually comes on for approx 20 seconds then goes off, is this usual?

Also I was advised ( by a British Gas engineer) that the hot water should be timed to be on all day as this was the most cost effective way, is this correct?

Many thanks

Sounds like a frost stat coming in.

No.

Where is the boiler installed?

Do you have a fully pumped system, or pumped ch and gravity primary?

You need to check any zone valve/s you have. If one has a sticky microswitch this will tell the boiler to fire up even if the programmer/timer is off.
