Boiler starts even though the programmer is set to off

What would cause the boiler to start work even though the programmer was set to off?

It all depends on what boiler is installed and what kind of system it is...

Make&Model?
Do you know if it is a Combi? a System?
Do you know if you have a S/Y plan system? etc.

Allsorts of things can happen for allsorts of reasons.

Does the boiler have a pre heat?

The boiler is a Vaillant Ecotec Plus 428 closed system?

How would i tell if it was S or Y plan?

S plan has 2 of these

y plan has one of these

S plan. One for the heating one for the hot water?

The boiler starts, stops, starts, stops continuously.

Could this be related to the problem that is causing the boiler to start even though the programer is off?

Do you mean the boiler actually fires up foe a short while?

What gets hot?

yes the boiler fires up, reaches the temperature set on the boiler 65C, cuts out with S5 then S7 status code, cools down to approx 40C then fires up again.

this cycle continues indefinitely.

Sounds like a fault with one of the valves.

i am getting both hot water and heating so how would i tell if it was the valve causing this problem?

would the faulty valve cause both issues?

I thought the issue was the boiler is firing with no demand (turned off at the timer)

What other issue are you talking about?
