Hi there

I'm joining some 2" pine boards up to make a table top.

the boards are all 72" x 6" x 2" all reclaimed wood.

One of the boards has a slight bow. about 3mm at the highest spot in the middle.

I'm planing to just glue and clamp the edges now I have jointed them and was going to plane the bow out, but if I lean on the board I can make it level with the others. If I glue and clamp it up and press the bow out, will it put undue pressure on the piece over time and eventually cause a split? I'm using titebond original glue.

I dont mind planing it as my number 7 stanley is flying since I got my waterstones and gave it an overhaul, but if it will be ok to take it out on glue up with some pressure, then I'll do that.

Any help appreciated.

did you alternate the growth rings on the boards!!!!

you arnt planning on gluing the top to the frame are you !! if you do as the wood shrinks it will crack as it cant move this is assuming the wood hasnt been stored or worked in a 21degree envirnoment ;)

3mm should pull out just sand the high spots especialy in the area of the frame underneath

hey there

Yup, alternated the boards. took me ages to decide on the final arrangement. Didn't realise 6 bits of wood could be such a puzzle to layout!!

It was stored in a barn so I stickered the wood for a couple of weeks indoors before beginning work

I've got a couple of friends who have exactly the table I want, but they paid £700 for! so I'm using theirs as a guide. The tops are held on with blocks that sit into a groove in the rails so as to allow for some expanding and contracting.

Its looking great but I'm sure I'll have some more questions soon!

Thanks for the advice
