We have a britony 8o, the hot water works fine, but when the heating is switched on it runs for less than a minute then it sounds like a plane, then cuts out, the pump/fan runs for a while then the boiler fires up again and goes through the same process. The boiler never stays on long enough to heat the radiators very much. The flow pipe gets hot but the return is almost cold. We used sentinel 800 a few weeks ago on the advice of the heating engineer who did the service but it only worked for a couple of weeks and we now have the plane back and lukewarm radiators.

Help!!!!!!!!!! Val

It's overheating for some reason on heating, could be a blockage in heating circuit or a weak pump. Does every radiator have a thermostat on it? Did you flush out system after x800? If its making that noise in such a short space of time the heats not getting away from boiler properly.

diverter valves are very prone to sticking on these sounds like yours is stuck in the HW mode so when you try to run CH it is overheating as the heat cant get away from the boiler, not really a DIY repair to be honest can get a bit messy when changing the diverter valve

Anyone thought to check the filter in the return pipework insiode the boiler :?:

The pump was changed in March this year and I'm sure he also changed the diverter valve. We don't have thermostats on the radiators we just have a room thermostat. The system was flushed several times after using x800. We also have a Magna clean on the return pipe.
Where is the filter located in the return pipe?
Thanks for your help everyone.

It sits in the end of the return pipe from the return isolating valve up to the RHS plastic manifold.

Or to put it another way, its there, but not exactly where you expect to find it .....

Presumably the magna clean has been cleaned, were the iso valves turned bac on?

Brill result, found filter, it was almost totally blocked, cleaned it up and put it back in worked a dream. Why did the engineers from N Power not pick up on this, when i looked in the handbook it suggested that when the yearly service was done that the filter in the return pipe should be cleaned. Not very happy with N Power.

Thankyou everyone for all your help.

Not very happy with N Power.

welcome to rip off britain. Eon and BG are the same, some small independants too. Anyone who crams in 10 boiler visits in a day is NOT going to do a proper job.

recommendations are the best way to go. luck of the draw really
