Broken screw thread

If the rethreaded hole will not hold a 3.5mm screw securely, then rethread it with a 4mm tap, then use a CSK 4mm machine screw.
If you've got a hole in thin mild steel which was 3.5mm and has got stripped, a 4mm screw will go in without needing to tap the hole first.

I would assume if this was a rigid lug, that it would be wise to pigtail the back box.
If it's the loose one it might be replaceable.

It may, but if the lug thread is shagged, rethreading first would prevent any damage to the thread on the new screw.

It would.

But if you don't have and can't justify, or can't get in time, a tap, you can regard a screw as a disposable rethreading tool.
