Our BT Phone line has gone bodge, and will only receive calls.

It has a dialing tone, but an uneven one. It keeps going up and down in tune. Whats happening here???????

We also have a orange live box. um. thought that would help. Please help its getting really irritating.

Have you tried dialing out , if so what happens?? intermitant dial tone means you either have a message (1571) calls on divert or another service (#21#) to remove.

If its none of the above , unplug everything thats plugged into your sockets and just try with a phone in the test point in the master socket (NTE) to access this you need to undo two screws that are 3/4 way down and take the front plate off , this gives you access to your test point.

The only other explanation is HAVE YOU PAID YOUR BILL???? if not then BT can make your line OCB (outgoing calls barred) and this would explain only being able to receive incoming.

a broken dial tone is a message waiting on 1571. Call that number and listen.

What outgoing calls have you tried?
Have you tried calling 150 and seeing what happens. If this works, try using the prefix 1280 to force your call to be routed over the BT network, and see if you can call out then - if this works, and you still can't make outgoing calls without the prefix, your phone call package may have been switched to another service provider.... (who isn't letting you dial out)
