I have a bungalow but there isn't enough height space in the roof to convert the loft.

I was wondering about whether it is worth taking the roof off and building upwards.

The internal depth of the house is about 20' 7".

Could I even put a roof on with a steeper pitch?

Hi

Both these options are possible and both depend on planning etc. Is yours the only bungalow in the street have others been altered in a same way. If you want to build a second storey you will need the foundations inspected. 7m is fairly typical and 45 degree roof pitch would be enough. But you would obviously need an attik truss or a cut roof with steels.

Thanks for your advice.

I think planning might be OK because it's a corner plot and one neighbour is a 2 story house the other is a bungalow. The house at the back was a bungalow that was knocked down and a huge new house built in it's place.

I really need 2 new bedrooms due to a growing family. The footprint of my bungalow is 7m x 11m.

I have enough room at the side of the bungalow for 2 bedrooms, but I was wondering if it might be cheaper to build up instead?
