hi all

i need to install a brick step over our existing driveway as the door is significantly higher.

the current driveway is made from tarmac/asphalt

is it essential i dig a trench for concrete foundation or will i be able to cement bricks directly onto the existing surface with suitable drainage? the current tarmac is in good nick.

i'm probably only looking at a single level of bricks with a slab on top.

thanks
James

Probably ...
Effectively making a ring of brick cemented to the asphalt and each other, then filled with concrete to the top, and paving slabs slightly larger, placed on top . The filling would hold the base together and it shouldn't move due to weight.
It would be batter to remove the asphalt in the step area but imho not 100% necessary
