Hi guys,

My wife and I have a large garage and were not sure if building regulations and such like would stop us from blocking off the door and eventually turning it in to a home office.
Obviously I understand that the office may need planning permission but was not sure on the idea of bricking up the door myself.

Has anyone else ever been in a similar situation or know if it is ok to go ahead with it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

Just a thought but could you not leave the door in place and seal it up then install a stud wall behind with insulation between.

This would have the following advantages:

1. It could be returned to a garage easier
2. It wouldn't change the asthetics of the building
3. Nobody would know

Our neighbours years ago turned their garage into a home office, they left the door in place and installed the stud wall about 3 or 4 foot in, so the garage door just opened. This gave them a little 'garden store' with the kids bike, lawn mower etc in, and the office behind

Above answer is about the most sensible you will get. Think about it.
No one can stop you sitting in a heated insulated garage when the mood suits you.
