I have an awkard space where I need to get a bath in (its 1300 x 800)
I am thinking of
1. building a bath : frame out of 2x4, plywood, membrane + tiles
or
2. cement bath

Does anyone have any experience with either ?
Thanks

A sit-bath might be a possibility.

I wonder if it might be very difficult to clean a tiled bath.

Also I would think that a concrete bath might suck the heat out of the water too much.

We built baths in the dark ages and I have had a cooper make me one as well. It wouldn't be beyond reason to get a fibreglass fabricator to make you one.

get one hand carved out of travertine. be about £1700 for that size.
pricey but they look lovely.

Building your own bath !, phew, who would have thought of it, you're my new hero, but if you go with the heavyweight solutions, I just hope that you have a strong floor, remember what happened to les Battersby in Coronation Street.

Here is a list of some London based fibreglass fabricators, but it seems to me that rather than finding a fibreglass fabricator, you're main problem might be in finding one that is willing to do small one off jobs.

Perhaps small fibreglass boat builders or car customisers might also be worth a look.

Here is a list of acrylic and fibreglass bath fabricators, perhaps one of these has a bespoke service.

Here is one in Widnes in Cheshire that will do one off jobs.

OOPS, sorry, what a pilloch, I forgot to post the links, so here they are.

The acrylic/fibreglass bath manufacturers.

The London based fibreglass fabricators, but the couple that I looked at seemed pretty large scale, that Widnes link looks like a good possibility though, BTW, if you do find a supplier, it would be very interesting to know what they charged.

LEs Battersby - separated at birth :) Will let you know how I get on ....
Thanks for all your help

I have got a sit in bath about 1200-1300 and its very good! They are fairly easily available at a reasonable price.

One of my clients has two tiled blockwork baths in her house. She has not said anything bad about them but because they are rectangular you could not lie down in them and they are usagewise more like a walled shower enclosure. I also view them as rather dangerous because they are so solid if anyone slipped and hit their head on the side!

Which bath did you get ? Thank you for this

It was there when I bought the property.

With a shower above its very convenient, in fact I would say more convenient than a shower ( for one person ).

They are I believe easily available.

I think that the correct name is actually a "hip" bath.

You could opt for Tadelakt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tadelakt) It's a stainable waterproof lime render. Used in a lot of those posh Moroccan bath houses.
