Hi
I just wanted some advice on putting in some fitted shelving.
We have an alcove in our bedroom, beside the chimney, about a 1.5m wide and depth about 40cm. The room is north facing, although the external wall ourside the alcove faces west. We have had a very small amount of condensation mould in this alcove where we've had some furniture pushed back against a wall (and I mean very small - some spots of mould over about one foot square, down in the bottom near the skirting).
I am considering putting some fitted shelving in, probably using carcasses - with curtains hung across the front rather than doors. There will be a small void (about 1cm) at the back, and a larger void (about 10cm high) across the top - which I'll put a panel in front of.
Now - my main concern is condensation/damp. We already take as much care as we can to improve general ventilation to the bedrooms, although we don't have a tumble dryer so there are often clothes drying indoors.
Given the voids which there will be - can I do anything to minimise the risk of condensation behind the carcass? Should I put in insulation behind them? And/or vents in the plinth and panel above the carcasses?
Any thoughts/comments - or is this just a bad idea!
Thanks
Keith
