Hi

Just had a shaver socket installed in the bathroom, but it buzzes constantly whenever anything (shaver, toothbrush) is plugged into it. Is this normal?

Is this anything to worry about?

Thanks

Thanks for the reply

I'd say a slight hum. If I get everyone in the house to shut up for a minute, I can just about hear it from outside the bathroom. (Hope that describes it well enough - quite hard to describe how loud something is).

Thanks

It will just be the transformer within the socket that is humming. This is perfectly normal, and unless the humming is driving you mad then it is fine how it is.

Our MK point used to hum and it was vibration.

Simple test when make the noise, hold the faceplate firmly against wall. if the noise goes:-

1/ try tightening the face plate screws a bit more
2/ put a small amount of mastic around faceplate edges and tighten up the faceplate screws.

The 2nd option will prevent the faceplate vibrating on the tile face, an alternative is to use some weather proofing double sided strip to the inside of the face plate, again as a barrier between the faceplate and tile face.
