C H headertank backfilling

as i said depends if its the feed in the bottom of the f/e
or the vent pipe pumping over.

cylinder coil failed.
this will useally notice by water backfilling in from the feed pipe.
cws is useally a larger tank sitting higher than the f/e tank.
if the coil fails in the cylinder which allows dhw to pass to the system water through the pin holed coil.
so the cws will constantly empty and the f/e will constanlty fill.
due to the height of both tanks.
can also be round the other way depending on height of the tanks.
but its better to get dhw into the f/e rather than dirty system water in your dhw.

vent pipe pumping over.
is useally due to a blockage or restriction in the pipework around the vent/feed pipe area, pump speed, vent pipe height wrong etc.

Thanks Seco for your responce. I do hope your wrong about failed coil.
All was well till I drained the system.
It is back feeding from the vent into the header if that helps at all.

pumping over the vent pipe.
useally a restriction or blockage in the pipework.
as you say you drained system so quite poss you shifted some crud and its now restricting the flow etc.

was the water when you drain ed the system black, brown etc ?
what was the condition of the water in the f/e when you drained it ?
did it have a layer of sludge in the bottom of the f/e ?

Thanks again Seco for being on the ball.
Yes the water was a little murky but I wouldnt have thought too execive.
I gave a bit of a rinse to the removed rad and maybe hoped for the best or maybe not gave it much thought.
Weather being what it is, I have heating on in bits at a time. Occasional visits to the loft to find a small trickle of warm water.
Maybe its flushing itself out.
Maybe a powerflush would be in order.
Thanks again folks

Listen to this man rather that certain 'idiots' who are trying to scare you.

Howdy folks. Just wanted to bring you all up to date with backfilling header tank.
Day 1. Panic. Hot water backflling into headertank via over flow.
Day 2. Calmer. Water steadied to a trickle.
Day 3. Happy man. No backfeed. Rads red hot.
Is a little bit of warm water expected in header?
Day 4 will really make my day if its cold!
Thanks to all who took interest.
Thanks Seco for advise.
Hope to beable to help someone out some day.
Maly

so what did you do to cure it ? or has system just settled down.
f/e should be cold water.

Seco. My strategy was to panic a lot and hope for the best.
I think the fault must have been as you suggested. (****).
I think all is well exept for warm water in header. I dont know if this is normal.
What do you recon?
Cheers folks.
Maly

no the water should be cold loft temp.

feel the feed from the tank and feel the vent pipe below water level is it hot/warm ?
