You know, I did consider exactly that, but discounted it on size.

Here is my choice:

I may well mount a 16A outlet on the reel, but for now, the trailing socket will do.
I may also fix a compartment to the bottom of the reel to store the 13A connectors so that everything is in one place.

Yes that cable will suffer very quickly where it exits the reel, I'd suggest changing the socket sooner rather than later.

I tend to use a wall mounted version now rather than panel mounted as they take up a lot of space with a plug in them
