I'm in the process of changing a gravity fed heating system to fully pumped and I have a question about the rating of the thermostat and the programmer.

The rating details on the cylinder thermostat states "6 (2.5) A 250v". I had assumed that the thermostat would take minimal current but if I'm reading this right it can pull up to 6A. I have already got some 0.5mm2 cable but this would be insufficient and therefore, before I go and change it I would be grateful if someone could confirm that I do need cable that can take 6A.

Thanks for any replies.

6A is simply the maximum current that the thermostat can safely switch - the thermostat itself draws no current. If all that is being switched is pumps, motorised valves, boiler etc, then the actual current will be very much lower than that, and I would personally think that 0.5mm² cable (rated at 3A) would be fine.

Kind Regards, John.

Thanks for explaining that. It is only switching what you refer too.
