Hi i wonder if anyone can help, i have a garage at the end of my garden i'll need to run power to, the overall run length will be 130 foot, i plan to use a 3 phase converter to power a 2hp lathe and do the lights etc, what kind of cable size should i be looking to use bearing in mind the voltage drop over that length of run.

also what are ther guide lines for running the cable, ie in a trench a foot deep of shield it?.

Many thanks

What's your total anticipated load for all garage equipment in W / Kw ??

Once you know this, enter the details for 3 core SWA in the following calculator

http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Technical/Charts/VoltageDrop.html

A 10kw load / 43A would require 10mm SWA, minimum depth of dig should be 600mm with electrical warning tape layered along the run when you back fill.
