I am going to open up the wall between the kitchen and the lounge to make a 2.5 meter opening for a breakfast bar.
The wall above is single skin brick and the lintel will be supporting 10M2 of brickwork above (there are no other loads on the wall).
My thoughts are that two lengths of 8x2" timber, bolted together at 250mm centres (top and bottom) and 3 meters long will be sufficient to support the load.
Can anyone advise whether this would be sufficient?
I know I could just go out and buy a pre-stressed concrete lintel but I have access to a lot of timber and would like to put it to use if possible.
Thanks,Will.
