Hi,
Id very much appreciate your advice,

I wish to lower the shower tray so that its easier for my wife (who has mobility challenges) to get in and out. In the attached picture you can see the existing pipework, my question is:

Is there any reason why the white shower waste pipe couldn't enter the soil stack using the lower socket instead of the socket it currently enters?

Looking at the picture may make what i'm asking clearer.

My reasoning is that although the lower socket is only an inch lower than the current entry point, its still an inch less potential trip hazard.

Many thanks in advance,

Yes, if you can find the correct boss connector. Tight space though, you'd have to drill out the boss :)

Presuming that is upstairs, it could be a lot easier and more effective to extend the 40mm drain pipe down through the floor alongside the 110mm soil stack, then connect to it further down using a boss strap.

Running the waste as above would allow you to use a very low profile shower tray and I would say the best idea.

If I was determined to use that boss connector and I couldn't get anything in there to make the whole. I would heat a short piece of copper with a blow lamp while holding it with a pair of grips and then melt a few wholes in it by pushing the end of the copper into the boss.

Then use a hacksaw blade held in a bit of cloth to cut out the blank properly.
