Can you get smooth fence posts, or long Newell posts

Hi

I'm looking to do some decking/steps in the garden.

Part of this will be a fence along the top tier of the garden. Ideally I would like to use decking newell posts, rails and spindles.

However I've only seen newell posts in 1.2m lengths, which is handy for the fence but no good for setting into concrete.

The alternative is to use a fence post, these are obviously sawn and not planed.

Can you get decking newell posts longer than 1.2m?
Can you get planed fence posts?
If I planed a fence post would it lose its weatherproofing treatment or is it more than skin deep?
