Can't drill my tiles ??

I recently wanted to drill some ceramic type tiles in the bathroom and outside capping the tops of a wall.


I've tried old and new, small and large masonry drill bits, slow and fast speeds and with or without the hammer setting on the drill, drilling a 5.5mm hole.

And all I do is burn the drill bit and tile without drilling through or cracking the tile.

What's the correct drill bit or procedure etc to drill these tiles.

You need diamond tipped bits,can get them from b&q and topps tiles a bit expensive though,you can get them elsewhere,I get mine from hong kong but depends how soon you want to be drilling that hole.

I have only ever used masonry bits on tiles and have never had a problem.

The tiles aren't porcelain are they ?

I wouldn't advise using the hammer action on your drill until you have got into the wall behind.

Armeg do some superb drills and core bits for porcelain tiles.
They will drill ceramic till the cows come home and you can get quite a few holes out of them through pocelain.
