Hi,

Hopefully this will make some sense. What do you use to bridge the gap between the floor and the cavity just in front of the door ?

Cheers

Dan.

Do you mean the gap between the two skins of the house, but in an entrance way?

When we had an extension built some years ago the builder used a flat board made of material similar to that that is used for corrugated roofs. Unfortunately it wasn't thick enough and a heavy guest cracked the screed when they trod on the join. I believe there are items called cavity closers/trays that can be used for this purpose, search on the net or check out the local builders merchants.

Thanks mate, I've had a few suggestions, including the use of slate roofing tiles across the cavity.

Cheers

Dan.

If your builder had built it properly there wouldn't be a cavity in the foundations at the door openings.

The door openings should be 'set out' when building the inner skin of the foundation cavity walling and at the external doorways the brickwork sets back to 225 thick (i.e. solid wall with no cavity). This 225 brickwork stops at top of hardcore level while the cavity brickwork continues up to dpc level.

So now you have just the single outer skin showing at the door openings. Cast the floor concrete into this recess as the floor is concreted and there you have it, a doorway opening with floor going right to the back of the facework. Membrane and vert jablite keep things dry and insulated.

Easy when you know how!
