I was looking at getting my walls insulated with some cavity wall insulation. I've been told that I can't do this as the wall doesn't have an cavity wall ties/tyes installed. Is this correct?

If you have got a cavity wall with no ties, then there is nothing holding the 2 skins together. When wall ties fail the walls often tend to belly out.

If you didn't have a cavity wall they couldn't fill it, but if you have a cavity wall with no ties you probably wouldn't have a house at all. They might mean the ties have 'gone' as in corroded, this would be evident by looking at the outside wall and seeing large cracks in the mortar, missing mortar, split bricks, bowing of the wall etc. If this is the case you need to replace the ties and isolate the old ones.
