We purchased a new spotlight for the lounge. when we came to install this we found that there were arout 6 wires coming down from the ceiling. My husband conected all the reds, all the blues and this left us with the earth (yellow and green) and wired them into the light fitting on the ceioing. We then wired up the switch, but when we put the power back on (trip box) the light came on wtihout switching on the light switch. Can someone please advise what we have done wrong?

you have done the most common problem people do with lighting,
although it normally ends with the fuse blowing!

your cables are

normally you have red & black or if newer brown & blue

perminate feed in (red)
neutral in (blue?)
switch feed (red) going to the switch
switch return (red but could be black/blue if unsleeved)
perminate feed out (red)- to next fitting
neutral out (black/blue)- to next fitting

you need to identify which 2 reds go to the switch
when you 've established this connect one with the other reds and
one to the light

good luck!

red and blue

hope ive not left this too late . . . DONT CLOSE THE SWITCH until you have sorted this problem or you will blow the fuse and probably ruin the switch (depending on cheapness).
