i'm draining my open vented c h system to add new rads. when work is complete i need to add inhibitor to the system but my expansion tank also acts as the cold water feed to bathroom (shower/bath). would it be safe to add the inhibitor to the tank or should i put it into one of the rads?

have you a primatic cylinder in airing cupboard or only one tank in loft ?
if so you can't add any.

Normally have two cold water tanks in the loft. The bigger one is your cold water storage, the small one is purely for your central heating system.

i thought having one tank to do both jobs was a bit strange. so no chemicals can be added to c h system then?

not if it mixes with dhw.
when you drain the system turn on a hot tap if it don't run then you have a primatic cylinder.

no chemicals

primatic cylinders are nasty, same water that runs through the radiators comes out your taps, ewwwww
