Hi people any advice would be appreciated....We have a 15 year old ideal classic boiler (Not Combi)
Every couple of days when it fires up in the morning or night we wait then After a few minutes we hear a whooshing sound then sure enough it sounds like a steam train coming through the roof with the banging sound and then the Boiler shuts off.
After 20 mins or so we can push the reset button on boiler and it works ok for the next while.
We find we have to bleed one particular radiator more often than others.
British Gas came out last year and replaced the pump but still the problem persists, They then said a Powerflush would fix the problem or they could do us a good deal on a new combi boiler, I don't trust them and don't believe a Powerflush is the solution.
The hot water cylinder is upstairs and the banging sound seems to come from between the cold water tank in the loft and the cylinder in the cupboard on the landing.
Anyone help??
Thanks
Robert.

More than likely the Boiler stat has gone and needs replacing ,its allowing boiler to get too hot

Would that also cause the loud banging we hear?
With these answers at least I will have a small idea what I am talking about when I phone a heating engineer
I don't want to pay £400+ for a powerflush if I don't need to

Depending on what model of classic the stat should not be more than 50 quid then whatever the guy charges for a simple job
