Chalk or putty

I need to fill the gap about 4mm between the glass and the wooden slip that holds the glass in place in the front door, so am i better to use decorators chalk or putty?

inside or outside?.

im old fashioned so id use putty,but i do believe they have invented an exterior chalk.

For jobs like this I use car body/ wood filler. Putty would need to be left bare for at last 8 days to form a crust, otherwise the oil will ooze out and shrivel paint and urrrgh
