I have an old Ideal mexico slimline 2 CF55 boiler on which the pilot light won't stay on. i have sourced a thermocouple, as a local expert who could not come and see me because of his workload, said that is what he thought it would be. however i am nervous about changing this out as i cannot get the boil part out far enough to get to the underside of the boiler to access the thrmocoupleand naturally dont want to damage anything. can anyone give some advice on how to proceed? i would get someone in if only i could find someone.

I think you have to pull the burner assembly out to get at it, so would advise you wait

sorry

Thanks Corgiman
I have already tried pulling the burner assembly out. i loosened off 2 wing nuts, which were not that tight and it moved forward quite easily, unfortunatley no far enough. i am beggining to think it was installed without maintenance in mind.

So i will probably take your advice and wait. unless i get really cold.

You don't know anyone in Aberdeen who can help do you? i tried about 5 people today and only 1 got back to me.

try corgi's website

or BG or homeserve they do fixed rate call outs I think

OP; I take it you have removed the bottom grille on the outer case at the front? Only 2 screws hold it in place.

You will struggle if this is still in place.

he would also have to undo the gas union gas

not a good idea methinks

:)

Didn't think about that Matt. Amazing what we take for granted and assume without thinking

Thanks guys. i have not removed the bottom grill so will look at that tomorrow. if it means undoing any gas coupling i will just wait for an engineer.

I tried Homeserve but got nowhere. i shall try corgi tomorrow.

Thanks again for all your input.

Don't any of your friends know a good heating engineer? This is a simple 30 min job at the worst ;)

OK guys. i bought the thermocouple and had someone install it for me as the gas had to me disconnected to get at it. now the pilot light stays on and we are very cosy.

Thanks
