Hi, new poster here. will be posting my full project once it gets underway.

But wanting some advice on a chimney breast removal downstairs.
The chimney stack has been removed from the centre of the loft and of course from the roof for a loft conversion.
Now I know it is working top down, so would have to come out of the first bedroom first, then downstairs.

Are chimney stacks used for supporting upstairs at all?

I am a fairly competent DIY'er and would like to undertake this all myself.
Other than getting it inspected first, what should I look out for?

If not what are the typical costs incurred with this sort of project?

Many thanks

They shouldn't be!

You will have to fill in the gap in the first floor where the chimney used to be. This can just be some joists on hangers.
You might find that the masonry where the flue used to be is pretty poor quality and there could be some considerable making good.

If you are doing it yourself you will probably need skip to dispose of the masonry.
Timber joists, hangers etc , plastering/making good of walls, making good ceilings, new carpets/flooring, skirting, decorating.

Might need some new tools too...

It'll all add up.
