Hi, following on from my previous thread we have been advised to have a formal inspection done on our chimney stack - is it a structural engineer I will need to contact for this?

No "formal inspection" (?) is required.

What in two or three sentences, is the issue? The issue(s) determines who has a look.

A builder will inspect the stack for adequate capping and ventilation! he will also advise if the remainder of the stack is sound.

The issue briefly is it is leaking water into the loft but there are also bricks falling into the remainder of the chimney stack (in the loft) presumably from the stack above the roof.

You have a choice:
a builder, a roofer or a chimney sweep( some sweeps are pretty good at stack issues and repairs and re-builds).

Whoever you choose, ask for photos of the damaged stack - before and after.
